Pokhara—A newly formed local committee has urged the government to come up with a long-run planning to rebuild the flood and landslide-hit Khahare area of Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolitan City- 6 on Monday.
Talking to this site, Khahare Flood Landslide Victim Group Coordinator Ganesh Raj Pahari informed that the flood and landslide that occurred on July 1, 2017 at Khahare area had damaged three tourist standard hotels affecting dozens of tourism business agencies and local settlement.
Hotel Harmony, Hotel Santana and Hotel Lucky Inn were hard hit by the landslide that started from the Jaljala area of ward number 18 of same metropolis. Hotel Harmony has been evacuated and the family of hotel owner has started to resort in another building.
Western Regional Hotel Association Pokhara Chairman Bikal Tulachan demanded the government to help the victim with compensation and some aid that they are seeking for. At the same time Pahari who is also a General Secretary of WRHA Pokhara demanded the government to confine their affected area into the program of national planning.
Khahare area is one of the parts of touristy Lakeside of Pokhara. So, entrepreneurs are in fear that the tourism of Lakeside could somehow be affected by the incident that occurred along the one of the busy roads of Lakeside. July 1 flood water and swamp had blocked the Lakeside Marga (road) and the disrupted electricity, drinking water and telephone services are due to be repaired in this area.
According to Pahari, the Lakeside Marga happens to be blocked due to the mud and gravels that come with Khahare Khola and flood water even in recent days. That situation also has been hammering the conservation of Phewa Lake for long. Likewise, the July 1 landslide also caused a monastery in the verge of risk.
According to Baidam Tamang Society Chairman Jack Tamang, the monastery with 80 ft high Buddha statue and the area may suffer the hit of further landslide if the area is not preserved in time. So, the society has urged the PLMC Office for some aid for the conservation of that area. The 7 million rupees statue project was going to be finished after four month. According to Mr. Tamang who is also the coordinator of statue construction committee, the monastery and statue were built as one of the tourist attractions of Pokhara.
