Cardiff–Real Madrid thrashed Juventus 4-1 to retain Champions League title on Saturday. Cristiano Ronaldo’s two goals showed the way to Real Madrid to become the first UEFA Champions League holder to retain its title.
He also turned out the first player in the 25 seasons of the Champions League history to score in three finals. Ronaldo’s first score leveled by Mario Mandzukic’s exquisite 27th-minute hook shot but it was the only high point for defeated Juventus. Casemiro resumed the Spanish champion’s lead in the 61st, Ronaldo turned in his 600th career scoring at the near post three minutes later, and Marco Asensio wrapped up a record-extending 12th title in the final minute of regular time.
On one night in the Welsh capital, Juventus conceded more goals than it had on the travel to the final, having let in only three in the previous three games. Madrid’s aggressive brilliance proved just too hard for Juventus to contain as Zinedine Zidane got his second Champions League title in 18 months of top-flight management.
