The construction of Pokhara Airport begins soon: Ambassador Hong

Pokhara—Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong said that the construction of Pokhara Regional International Airport (PRIA) would begin very soon.

Addressing an interaction program organized by Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry to welcome him, ambassador Hong claimed that the major hurdles regarding airport were sorted out and the issues of banking rules and conditions would also be sorted out very soon.

According to information, Nepali side has completed all its tasks to open an ESCROW Account to deposit the income from the new airport to pay back the will be granted loan to China EXIM Bank. The airport would be ICAO Category 4D level that will be built by China CAMC Engineering in Engineering, Procurement Construction (EPC) model in Chhinedanda of Pokhara.

Then Prime Mininster KP Sharma Oli had laid the foundation stone of PRIA on 13 April, 2016. The government had acquired 3,106 ropanis of land 4 decade before; and later, more 629 ropanis of land was acquired to build a new airport in touristy town Pokhara. EXIM Bank of China would provide USD 215 million soft loan to build the new airport in EPC model.

Ambassador Hong also reviewed that the Pokhara is the one of the attraction centers of Chinese tourists. She also asked the concern Nepali sides to produce the materials for Chinese tourists as, according to him, they are ready to expense a big amount of money while travelling.

FNCCI former Chairman Ananda Raj Mulmi requested Ambassador Hong to take initiation from Chinese side to open bordering points between Nepal and China. He also demanded to open Korala border point at earliest. PCCI Chairman Bishwo Shankar Palike said that the private sector of Nepal is ready to make pressure to government for the signing of One Belt One Road concept of China.
