Pokhara—A skate park has been built in the premises of Pokhara Stadium. Volunteers from Make Life Skate Life (MLSL) have built that Annapurna Skate Park that was handed over to Western Regional Sports Development Committee (WRSDC) Pokhara by MLSL Director Jon Chaconas recently.
Around 100 players at once can enjoy the skating in the park. More than 50 volunteers from various 20 nations donated their labors to build that park which cost US $ 22,000, informed WRSDC. The local community was provided with the tools, materials, and knowledge to create their own skate park as well as the inspiration to lead their own future projects. This park was prepared within the period of three weeks.
Skate lovers can enjoy skating seeing the breathtaking Annapurna Mountain Range in Pokhara now. The Park also provides the opportunities to children to learn the skating on their own or from their seniors in Pokhara. WRSDC Chairman Khaga Raj Paudel thanked the volunteers from MLSL for their contribution to build that park. Sports Minister Daljit Sripaili had also observed that park which is said to be a world standard.
The MLSL is an institution of volunteers who have already built such skate parks in various countries across the world. WRSC has provided the land to construct the skate park in the Pokhara Stadium. According to Makelifeskatelife.org, Annapurna Skatepark is a community skatepark in Nepal’s second largest city, Pokhara, seeking to accommodate the growing demand for safe spaces for skateboarding in the country.
In April 2017, an international group of professional skatepark builders joined local youth in Pokhara to educate them in concrete skatepark construction, providing the local community with a 500m² international standard skatepark for everyone to enjoy.
In the long term, we seek to implement a free of charge loaner system at Annapurna Skatepark to enable all youth access to skateboarding equipment and safety gear, regardless of economic standing, the website states.
