Disabled Wheelchair Basketball Tournament begins in Pokhara

Pokhara—The fifth Vibor Society National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament 2017 has commenced in Pokhara on Sunday. Disabled Sports Committee Kaski defeated Friendship Society for Spinal cord Injury Sports Association 31-2 in inaugural match.

Jawalakhel Sports Association beat Wheelchair Sports Association Kathmandu 54-11 in another match in Pokhara Stadium. Earlier, social worker and tourism entrepreneur Ganesh Bahadur Bhattarai inaugurated the tournament jointly organized by Disabled Sports Committee Kaski and Independent Jeevan Paddhati Samaj (IJPS) Nepal. A basketball was handed over to referee duos Madhu Rawal and Sri Ram Lama to open a tournament.

According league cum knockout tournament coordinator Bharat Bikram Baniya, the final match would be held on Monday. With an honor from APF Nepal bandbaajaa team, players of six participant teams were escorted to Pokhara Stadium.

The winner team will bag Rs 20,000, first runner up Rs 10,000 and 2nd runner up Rs 5,000 including trophy and medal. Best player and high scorer will be given cell phone of World Vision, informed LJPS General Secretary Hem Gurung.
