Recentfusion.com—Pokhara: Experts have stressed on the need of attention to save the lakes and bio-diversities of Pokhara, Lekhnath and surrounding areas. They have also said that the urbanization and pollution were the major cause and threat behind the encroachment of lakes and bio-diversities.
They have recommended the systematic urbanization and conservation of bio-diversities during an interaction organized by Institute of Forestry Pokhara Campus Professors’ Association in Pokhara on Friday. The interaction was managed by Pokhara Tourism Council (PTC) and assisted by Rufford Foundation.
Speaking in the interaction, PTC advisor Srikanta Shrama Khatiwada said that the tourists mainly come to Pokhara to see bio-diversities and natural attractions. Khatiwada also added that the importance of Pokhara valley lakes is very high as most of them are listed in Ramsar Sites.
Deputy professor Suman Bhattarai said that the pollution and garbage are some of the major threats to the lakes and bio-diversities. He stressed on the need of development of green cities. Professor Binod Prasad Heyajoo urged for the development of planned and systematic settlements.
PTC Chairman Som Bahadur Thapa said that the Pokhara lakes are important attractions for the development of tourism not only of Pokhara but for whole Nepal. He also stressed on the need of development of ecotourism.
PTC former Chairman Ganesh Bahadur Bhattarai, District Forest Office Kaski officer Kedar Baral, IoF Pokhara Campus Din Professor Dr. Krishna Raj Tiwari, Pokhara Campus Chief Dr. Dil Bahadur Khanal also delivered their views during the interaction.
