PM Dahal stresses on consensus before announcing polls’ date

Recentfusion.com—Pokhara: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that the government would announce the date of civic polls after forging consensus with Madhesi Front, in Chitwan toady.

Speaking in a press meet organized by Press Center Chitwan, PM Dahal reiterated that the polls would be carried out in mid April or mid May. He however made clear that the date would be announced after consulting with Madhesi Front and other political parties of Nepal.

Reminding that the government has already written to Election Commission to do preparation for polls, PM Dahal claimed that was like announcing a date for elections. “As there is due to have consensus among the parties, we have not announced polls’ date technically.”Dahal said.

He also added that the government first would try its best to pass the constitution amendment bill which was already tabled in parliament, but alternative idea would be thought if the understanding is not made among the parties. PM Dahal claimed that almost all the laws related to elections had already been passed by the house. Dahal also said that there was no need of passing threshold relating law at this time.

Saying that council of minister has formed a task-force to go through the report submitted by local body restructuring committee, Dahal made clear that the house was deferred for some days as the committee was given 15 days of time to submit the review report.

PM Dahal also asked CPN-UML to help the government instead of resorting on criticism and suspicion over holding the polls. He also asked main opposition UML not to create illusion about the polls. ‘I have already begun the election related tasks on the top of commitment. ‘Dahal answered the UML’s saying that he should step down if he fails to hold the elections.
