Tamu Lhosar observed in Pokhara

By Rup Narayan Dhakal—Pokhara: Gurung people from Pokhara and surroundings celebrated the Lhosar, their new year and one of the biggest festivals, organizing a cultural rally and mass gathering in Pokhara on Saturday.

Thousands of Gurung (Tamu) people in their traditional attires marched in the street of Pokhara and reached to Pokhara Exhibition Center to celebrate Lhosar collectively. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal addressed the gathering.

Dahal also felicitated 12 noted personalities in behalf of Tamu Dhi Nepal that was the organizer of the gathering. Nepal Electricity Authority Chief Executive Director Kulman Ghising, Engineer Sanjeev Gurung, Justice Satya Raj Gurung, Federation of Nepalese Indigenous Nationalities Journalists (FONIJ) President Danda Gurung, Tamu Phye Lhu Sangh former president Captain Rup Bahadur Gurung were felicitated during the gathering.

Likewise, Baudha Arghau Sadan former president Captain Man Bahadur Gurung, Tamu Hyula Chhoj Dhi Rastriya Parishad Kaski president Dal Bahadur Gurung, Tamu Dhi UK founding president Min Prasad Gurung, social worker Maya Gurung, sociologist Pol Bahadur Gurung, journalist Indira Gurung, White Lotus Studio director Yug Gurung were also honored during the mass meeting. The cultural tableau competition and Chhelo (shotput) competition were also organized during the Lhosar celebration.

Tamu Hyula Chhoj Dhi Kaski President Dal Bahadur Gurung and Tamu Dhi Kaski president Karma Gurung also expressed their views during the formal program of Lhosar.
