Recentfusion.com—Pokhara: Pokhara Sub-Metropolitan City (PSMC) Office has been declared a polythene bags and plastic cups prohibitory zone on Wednesday.
Kedar Bahadur Adhikari, Secretary of Federal Affairs and Local Development Ministry announced Pokhara a plastic bag and such cup banned zone in a special program organized at Pokhara City Hall.
Addressing a gathering, Adhikari said that the metropolitan office and the government alone could not do anything without the support of public in the mission of plythene bag and such cup banning.
The PSMC had banned black colored plastic some 6 years before and now all kinds of plastic bags and plastics cup have been declared illegal within Pokhara. PSMC then CEO Jhalak Ram Adhikari had come up with a plan of plastic banning some 3 years before.
According to PSMC CEO Naba Raj Dhungana, his office would deployed the inspection team against the use of above mention items and the person who carries such banned plastic items would be punished as per the Local Self Governance Regulation 2065.
The inspection teams would be mobilized especially in the entry points- Bijaypur, Phedi and the bordering area of Syangja, of Pokhara, informed PSMC Police Chief Basanta Chalise.
Western Regional Administrator Khaga Raj Baral, Gandaki Zonal Transportation Office Chief Tilak Paudel, Federation of Nepali Journalists Kaski Chairman Ram Krishna Gnwali and Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chiarman Bishwo Shankar Palikhe addressed the gathering in Pokhara City Hall.
Likewise, Civil Society Pokhara coordinator Ram Bahadur Paudel, social workers Ujwal Khatri, Anju KC, PSMC engineers Mahendra Godar, PSMC senior officer Om Raj Paudel, Sarada Mohan Kafle, senior Engineer, Chief of Planning and Public Construction Department of PSMC expressed their views against plastic use in the program.
Earlier, a rally with banners and play cards against plastic use was marched in the street of New Road to reach Pokhara City Hall.
