Impeachment motion registered against CIIA Chief Karki

Recentfusion.com—Kathmandu: 157 lawmakers register impeachment motion against Chief Commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Lokman Singh Karki the day before. Following that move, he has been suspended from his post.

The main opposition CPN-UML and key ruling party CPN-MC registered an impeachment motionin parliament onWednesday. Out of the total of 157 lawmakers, 107 are from CPN-UML and 50 from the ruling Maoist Center. The Parliament secretariat has informed about the development to PM, President, CIIA and other offices on the same day.

According to constitutional provision, one fourth of the total lawmakers can register impeachment motion and two third majorities of lawmakers should vote for the impeachment to pass the accusation. Lawmaker Mahendra Bahadur Shahi of the CPN-MC had proposed the impeachment motion and UML’s Dhakal seconded it.

Earlier, the 11 member Impeachment Recommendation Committee was formed in that context. It is said that CIAA Chief Karki returned home today via UAE from Canada after his month long journey.
