Recentfusion.com—Pokhara : Polling counters in Ghairapatan- Pokhara have opened to elect the new executive body of Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) on Saturday. The two day long PCCI general convention had kicked off yesterday.
The PCCI general members who are eligible for voting are taking part in the election and dozens other are queuing to cast their votes. According to election committee coordinator Deepak Shrestha, all total 2749 members are eligible to cast their votes. Dev Chhetri, Narayan Koirala, Bishwo Shankar Palikhe, Hira Bhattarai, Ishwor Karmacharya and Dhaniram Baral are vying for the post of PCCI President.
The voting that began at 8 am and will continue till 4 pm today. PCCI which is the eldest institution of Private sector in Pokhara will elect a new executive body for two years of tenure. All total 49 candidates for 24 posts are vying in the election.
Six in president, two in senior vice presidents, three in vice presidents towards commerce, 2 vice presidents towards industry, two in treasurer, two in general secretary and three in deputy general secretary are contesting in the PCCI election. All total 21 candidates are vying for the required 10 executive members.
According to new statute of PCCI, the executive body contains 1 president, 1 senior vice president, two vice presidents, 1 treasurer, 1 general secretary, 1 deputy general secretary, 10 members, four members from objective side, two from corporate side, 1 member from industry side and 1 immediate past presidents.
Four members will be nominated by new president later. The PCCI executive body contains all total 29 members.
Eight candidates are fighting for required 4 objective members. Mohan Babu Khadka for required 1 member on the side of industry had unanimously elected. Kamal Bhadur Basnet and Narendra Bastola were also elected without oppose on corporate member.
