Expert suggests branding Pokhara

Recentfusion.com—Pokhara:  Professor Brijesh Thapa who has been living in USA for long time suggested the tourism entrepreneurs to come up with a effective branding of Pokhara for the development of tourism.

Addressing a talk program organized by Pokhara Tourism Council (PTC), Thapa disclosed that for most of the international visitors, Nepal is still a mysterious destination so, he said the Nepal government need to do effective branding of this nation. He also added that the marketing isn’t a branding but it’s a process.

He also suggested the tourism entrepreneurs and stakeholders to come up with few tourism researches that would guide the marketing and branding pattern of Pokhara. For that, we need to know the nexus of tourism industry and universities., he said. He also said that the Kathmandu is a big brand but Pokhara need to do lots to become a popular brand of tourism.

Thapa also suggested the authorities to impose destination tax to visitors who come to Pokhara. ‘This tax should be utilized only to develop the tourism of Pokhara’, he suggested. He also advised to save the Phewa Lake. ‘The health of the lake is very important to put the Pokhara intact.’ Thapa said- nature, culture and heritage are important things.

As tourism is very comparative industry, he said that Pokhara could use technology and applications to promote the town in the international market. He also suggested the Nepal Tourism Board to develop the promotional materials and web site at least in five different languages. PTC President Som Bahadur Thapa also expressed his views during the program.
