By Mira Thapa—Pokhara: Thousands of Nepalis and foreign tourists enjoyed the rice planting festival organized by Pokhara Tourism Council (PTC) in Pokhara on Wednesday.
Participants threw the wet mud to each other and took part in the tug of war in Mahat Gaunda of Pokhara. The festival which is also known as Ropain Festival has been organizing for 13 years in every year in Pokhara.
The main motto of this festival is the promotion of domestic and international tourism in Nepal, informed festival coordinator Dambar Bahadur KC.
Ashar 15, which is also a festival of Nepali people, has been celebrating as Paddy Day in Nepal for few years. According to PTC chairman Som Bahadur Thapa, the festival in Pokhara also aims to lure the tourists even in low season of summer. So, the festival carries the slogan of Pokhara for all season.
Ropain songs, folk songs, mixture of curd and beaten rice eating program, fish catching event, mud leveling competition were also the attractions of the festival. Nepal’s tourism minister Ananda Pokhrel inaugurated the festival. Farmers also organized such kind of festival in Kahu Khola and Bachhe Buduwa of Pokhara.
The booming real-estate business and land plotting were the major causes that are finishing the productive land, so, the festival also aims to aware against such task that develops cemented building in paddy fields.
