My Dream is a Model Pokhara Thu, May 8, 2008, 4:33 pm
My Dream is a Model Pokhara: Damai Yam Bahadur Damai (30) has a dream that he wishes to develop Pokhara as a Model City in terms of sanitation. He was a staff sweeper of Pokhara Sub metropolitan and candidate of mayor during King's regime. He still could be seen in the streets of Pokhara sweeping voluntarily. Excerpts of chitchats:
What brings you to the streets to work voluntarily? Everybody loves cleanliness but most of the people careless about sanitation so I would like to flow a message of cleanliness to change Pokhara into a model city in terms of sanitation.
You talked about sanitation but your own face seems mess with long moustaches and beards; what is it? It is because, I have vowed that I wouldn't get shaved my moustaches and beards until and unless the Pokhara turned into a Model City as I mentioned above. I won't leave a mike in one hand to flow cleaning message and a broom in another until my dream is fulfilled.
What do you do to live; I mean what's your earning source? I collect rubbishes and changed them into cashes. Bio-wastes are used to make composts for vegetation and the metallic wastes are recycled. I have rented some lands for that job. I also clean toilets and take some money from the owners. I have a dozens of staffs and they help me in every of my tasks. I have a pig farm which I run in partnership.
Are you still cooperating with Pokhara Sub Metropolitan? No, I am not but I like to work with them. They are not much positive over my plan. I would like to challenge them that I could manage all the rubbishes produce in Pokhara in a half of the expenses that now Pokhara Sub Metropolitan spends.
Do you have any message to Pokharalis? Off course I have. I would like to request all the people to stay clean and be responsible. I have seen many such people who ride an expensive shining car and throw a rubbish-sack into a Seti River, bringing the rubbishes into their car's dickey.
