Aftermath of Load-shedding Mon, January 26, 2009, 8:54 am
By Rup Narayan In my recent Kathmandu visit, one of my friends said that she was about to meet depression due to the load-shedding problem. Other friends laughed at her saying when she revealed her that problem but I took the matter very seriously comparing it in my case.
First of all I have a habit of sever internet use and it's not exaggeration to say myself as a internet addict. So, during the load-shedding time I get a kind of suffocation. Sometime I go to cyber cafes and sometime wander without any propose in the streets. Load shedding is raising my monthly expenses.
During the night, when I don't get the electricity, I must rely on candlelight which is also adding extra burden in my monthly budget. These days, I go to bed earlier than before and don't get any task in case I wake early in the morning if there is load-shedding. It's a kind of tourcher for the people like me. I don't get the chance to study and surf the net in most of the nights though I am managing it from my office during the day time.
It's being same to say I am a editor of this site since the site is not properly updated in most of the time. It's all the aftermath of load-shedding. What a media could do in the case of such power crises when government also forced to announced the emergency in electricity?
There is neither rain nor snowfall in Nepal for a long time. However I am happy that the load-shedding hours are coming down from 16 hours to 14 hours as the days are getting warm. I hope the blackout hours will be heavily slashed in coming days because the snowcapped mountains are melting along with the warmer days.
